Take the heat out of the kitchen and have fun learning to cook. Impress your friends and family with delicious homemade Indian contemporary food, fantastically good fun to make and so simple once you know how.

You will prepare a range of everyday Indian dishes from Chicken Tikka Masala to Indian Deserts. Headed by Sharnita K Athwal who is the Executive Chef of the Hockley Bar & Kitchen, which is now well recognised for her fantastic Indian fusion cooking. In this, hands on class she will guide you through a range of delicious modern and traditional Indian classics.

This cookery classes represents her take on Modern Indian Cuisine, prepared using fresh flavorful ingredients, designed to accommodate the modern lifestyle. Indian cooking is often perceived as intimidating due to the use of wide range of unusual ingredients and complex cooking procedures however, Sharnita K Athwal's lessons are an attempt to recreate classic Indian dishes by using simplistic techniques along with a delicious juxtaposition of non-Indian ingredients. She has strived to bring traditional Indian cuisine to simplified levels fit for modern living and entertaining, while keeping the flavors and authenticity intact.

There will be hints and tips throughout the cookery class on how to work with spices, marinate food and provide low fat options to tickle those taste buds and keep your friends coming back for more.

The Class:
Classes will be held at a state of the art kitchen at the Hockley Bar and Kitchen in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. On arrival light refreshments will be provided and a discussion about the menu.

Following this introduction the cooking begins with a combination of hands-on cooking and demonstrations to make a three-course dinner for two under the instruction of Chef Sharnita K Athwal. You will learn fundamental cookery techniques that can be applied whether you’re working in a professional kitchen or entertaining at home.

At the end of the day you will be given a copy of the recipes used and food cooked to take home. You are free to ask as many questions as you would like throughout all stages of the day. Classes are small with a maximum of 6 participants, allowing plenty of time for each individual.

The Hockley Bar & Kitchen Cookery Class launches this autumn to offer a fun and informal way of learning uncomplicated, delicious, contemporary Indian cooking. All classes are suitable for beginners as well as more adventurous cooks. All ingredients will be provided - You just do the cooking!

NOTES:
On purchasing this experience you will be sent an e-voucher valid for six months. Cookery courses are available on selected dates and run from Feb - July 2010.

Monday: 4.00pm until 6.00pm

Tuesday: 7.00pm until 9.00pm
Wednesday: 7.00pm until 9.00pm

Weekend:
Saturday: 3.30pm until 5.30pm

Price: 1: £99.00 per lesson
2: £129.00 per lesson + Spice in the Box provides all the spices and blends you need to cook Indian food at home.

Fantastic new food launched

THE HOCKLEY BAR & KITCHEN in the Jewellery Quarter is a casual yet cosmopolitan restaurant, and late night lounge bar.

The venue also has a wonderful bar lounge area, which is a relaxed space ideal for quick lunches, informal dining, after-work drinks or pre-dinner aperitifs.

The Hockley is open all day and night, and is completely Free Entry to the Bar & Lounge (PINK ROOM). The Back Space (BLACK ROOM) will hold special events from 10pm-late on weekends.

For global travellers with a cultural palate and a love of variety, the Hockley Bar & Kitchen in the Jewellery Quarter, combines elements of modern contemporary food with an multi-ethnic influence in a high energy, yet relaxed welcoming space.

Indulge in our extensive range of global wines or nibble on some mouth watering bites from Spicy Kebab Burgers, to Saffron Sautéed Wild Mushrooms, Chilli, Garlic and Tomato Puree with Ginger Polenta. If you fancy something a bit more traditional the Hockley Chicken Curry or Slow Braised Punjabi Lamb Biryani with Mint Raita Drizzle are also served, but with a slightly modern twist.

RELAX:
We’re also open from 9.30am to 8.00pm between Mon-Wed as the Bar and Restaurant remains open between lunch to allow for meetings, coffees, cakes and nibbles available.

We’re opened all day and night, and it’s completely FREE ENTRY to the Bar & Lounge while the Club Space will hold special events from 10pm-late on weekends.
